The All-New Arctic Cat Wildcat

Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000 ROVs

Inspired by the unforgiving terrain of the Baja 1000, engineered to attack the gnarliest obstacles with precision and control, and crafted in America by a company dedicated to performance and quality, the all-new Arctic Cat Wildcat V-Twin 1000 H.O. debuts as the most potent pure-sport recreational off-road vehicle (ROV) ever built.
With industry-leading suspension travel, 13 inches of ground clearance, a full-perimeter frame and the largest displacement engine in its class, the Wildcat is a full-production version of what was previously re-served for off-road race vehicles.
“The Wildcat has no equal. Period,” said Claude Jordan, Arctic Cat President and CEO. “Our customers asked for a high-performance side-by-side, and we happily responded with a no-compromise, pure-sport hot rod that redefines what’s possible with a production off-road vehicle.”

SUSPENSION – Ultimate Long Travel
The Wildcat can effortlessly hammer through whoops and dunes thanks to a front and rear suspension combination that rivals those used on off-road race buggies.
At the rear is an industry-first 5-point multi-link trailing arm suspension that keeps the tires’ contact patches flat while the suspension moves through its industry-leading 18 inches of travel. The unique 5-point multi-link minimizes camber and axle plunge to soak up the harshest terrain without compromising handling and steering.
The double-wishbone front suspension boasts a best-in-class 17 inches of travel, with geometry that’s optimized for stability and control.
Both the front and rear suspensions are dampened by Walker Evans Racing shocks. Designed from a life-time of off-road competition and experience and also made in the USA, these remote reservoir shocks are machined from billet aluminum and feature 17-position compression dampening adjustability, dual-rate springs and preload adjustment. They’re calibrated with ample ride-in to keep the Wildcat’s tires on the ground, with consistent dampening for hours of hard riding.
The all-new Duro Kaden 14-in tires were developed specifically for the Wildcat, utilizing an elongated tread pattern designed to extend to the tires shoulder, providing excellent cornering, traction, performance and durability in rough conditions.

CHASSIS Full-Perimeter Exoskeleton

The foundation for the Wildcat’s suspension is a full-perimeter frame that sets a new standard in strength, rigidity and durability. Usually found only in off-road race trucks, the chassis is constructed from High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steel with a full-perimeter exoskeleton design that’s a first in the ROV class.
With a 40/60 front/rear weight distribution, the Wildcat’s front end remains light for optimal handling when tackling gnarly terrain. Occupants in the cockpit of the Wildcat are positioned close to the low center-of-gravity (CG), leaving them less affected by movements of the suspension and chassis and producing a more comfortable and confident ride.
The 1000 H.O engine that powers the new Wildcat is the largest displacement engine in the Pure Sport category, and the ideal match for the industry-leading suspensions and chassis combo.
Built in the USA by Arctic Cat, the 951cc V-Twin, SOHC 4-stroke with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) has proven itself on the Prowler XTZ. On the Wildcat, the 1000 H.O. has been tuned to deliver even stronger acceleration thanks to the extra torque and horsepower provided by heavy-breathing 50mm throttle bodies, a new 2-into-1 ceramic coated exhaust and an all-new air intake system.
The close-coupled, mid-chassis engine location neutralizes the Wildcat’s handling, maximizes the rider/passenger volume and reduces cockpit noise.
The engine transfers power to the driveshaft via the Duramatic automatic CVT transmission. The addition of the Spike Load Dampener (SLD) allows the driveline to slip for a millisecond under harsh spike-loads, reducing the torque load to the system for optimal durability.
A console-mounted shifter allows quicker gear selection between Reverse, Neutral, High and Low gears. Likewise, a dash-mounted switch activates 2- or 4-wheel drive with differential lock. Four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes provide strong, enhanced braking.

Electronic Power Steering

Yet another first-in-class technology, the addition of Arctic Cat’s Variable Assist Electronic Power Steering (EPS) on the Wildcat delivers even greater steering control and ease. The EPS system is a managed electronic control unit (ECU) that measures steering input force, tire resistance and vehicle speed, and then provides the appropriate assist to the steering column through an electric motor. Steering assistance begins at idle, and varies based on the above inputs. The result: Light steering input effort at speed while maintaining the right amount of driver feedback to feel the limits of traction and control. The power assist is particularly noticeable at low speeds and when in 4WD (especially with the differential locked), where its reduced steering effort eases changing direction or navigating tough obstacles like washouts, rocks or mud.

INTERIOR – Comfortable and Controlled
Arctic Cat engineers designed the Wildcat’s interior for optimal occupant comfort, control and visibility. Contoured, high-back bucket seats with upper body supports deliver exceptional comfort and body stability, and rival any aftermarket suspension seat on the market. The cut and sewn design cradles the Wildcat occupants to minimize fatigue. A 3-point seat belt with an anti-cinch design keeps you in place and comfortable through the harshest terrain. Getting in and out of the Wildcat is quick and easy thanks to a tube-frame door with integrated nets. Pivoting from the rear and latching at the front via a simple one-latch mechanism, the doors open quickly and easily, swinging out of the way for hassle-free entry/departure. An infinitely adjustable tilt steering wheel allows you to adjust your steering preferences. A new5-inch digital/analog round gauge provides great readability with its mid-dash location. It displays up to 14 critical operations including: clock/hour meter, fuel level, mode button, set/reset button, odometer/trip, gear position, speedometer/tachometer, differential lock, drive select, high beam, battery condition, temperature and oil pressure. A locking glove box offers ample, convenient storage, while two easy to- reach cup holders are located where beverages won’t interfere with driving controls or arms.

PREMIUM FEATURES

The all-new Wildcat is rich with premium features starting with two automotive- style painted color choices: Black Metallic or Arctic Green Metallic. Class-leading LED headlights and taillights project a light that’s clearer than an HID,with two times brighter Lumens than a halogen system(while utilizing 50 percent less wattage). The Wildcat’s rear cargo bed has the largest capacity in its class with a 300 lb. payload to carry a cooler and additional fuel containers. A 12V accessory outlet is located in the center console for GPS or cell phone adapters. The alternator capacity has been increased for accessory lights, radios or winches. The underside of the Wildcat features full-protection HDPE skid plates to glide over protruding obstacles, while the chassis utilizes maintenance- free bushings for hassle-free durability.

Best Snowmobile Destinations

Are you a snowmobile fanatic but are sick and tired of revving it up in your backyard and circling the family swing set? Well, don't fret! It sounds like you have quite an imagination, which is good! But I've found some places that will allow you to put that imagination to rest for a few days, or even weeks, in exchange for the vacation of a lifetime that will allow you to expand passed your fenced-in backyard. If you're ready for a great time for your next snowmobile trip, I've rounded up a few fabulous places that will ensure you'll never want to leave. Check them out!

Moosehead Lake Cabins in Greenville, Maine

The Moosehead Lake area in Greenville, Maine is a perfect destination for snowmobiling with your friends. Open year-round but best for travel from mid-January to the first week of March; this fabulous location has plenty of perks for the snowmobile junkie. They offer an astounding 160-mile trail loop with gorgeous lake views and plenty of dining stops along the way. You can bring your own machine for a very reasonable registration fee, or rent one of theirs for a little bit more.

Some perks of the lounge include their great dining locations, which include Spring Creek BBQ, a fabulous restaurant that offers great food, sound trail information, and even better company. Also, on Saturdays at noon you can watch the popular ice races at Greenville Junction. If you want to venture into Downtown Greenville, you can stop by some of their unique restaurants, including Black Frog (no, they don't serve what you think), a great stop for munchies and appetizers, Rod n Reel, one of the lodge's favorite locations, which serves lunch and dinner, and Auntie M's, a breakfast and lunch destination. They advise that you should plan to reserve your trip mid week to avoid a large number of sledders, crowded conditions, and less-groomed trails. But no matter when you come, you're guaranteed to have a great time!

Utah Adventures

If you want to experience the beautiful, frigid winter of Utah with your friends and family - and snowmobile - then you have to visit their lodges and trails. They've created a fantastic vacation package for you at their lodges in either Park City or Salt Lake City. Their 3 day/3 night packages include standard, deluxe or luxury accommodations, a half-day guided, extreme tour (includes clothing and equipment), a 2-day snowmobile rental, snowsuits, boots and helmets for 2 days, and a rental SUV for up to 4 days.

Their lodges are available from November to March, based on snow conditions, and their prices vary depending on the length of the trip, location of the lodge, and preferred lodging accommodations. But once you get there you'll fall in love with their trails. And you'll have even more fun on their planned half-day extreme tour where you learn to operate your machine while simultaneously gazing at views of mountain peaks rarely seen by human eyes. The half-day tour covers your first day on your vacation - how you enjoy your remaining days is left completely up to you. Their only requirements are that drivers are at least 16 years old and carry a valid driver's license. After that, you're set!

Highland Wilderness Tours in Bancroft and Algonquin Park, Ontario

These expert-guided tours provide an excellent vacation choice for those who are interested in getting out of the United States for their snowmobiling adventure. They offer you a great time in the wilderness of Algonquin Park amidst the snowy falls of the Hastings Highlands and aboard your favorite snow-sailing machine. They offer great year-round lodging accommodations, which are great for those who are busy during the winter months, but of course, if you can make it during this time you'll experience the best snowmobiling of your life.

If you don't have your own snowmobile, you don't have to worry; they offer some great machines for your renting pleasure, including the Aortic Cat and Ski-doo, both of which offer comfortable rides with heated hand grips, thumb warmers, carbide runners and 400 & 500 cc's of power. Their rates range from $150 to $300 for up to six hours on a snowmobile tour, which sounds very reasonable, but they advise that before you choose a rate, figure out what a snowmobile costs, add in gas prices and insurance, and consider the price for a helmet and suit. This will guarantee that you make the right choice.

Rocky Mountain Tours

The Rocky Mountain Tours in Wyoming provide a great landscape for some great snowmobiling on the hills. These tours umbrella an array of hot spots to visit while cascading the snowy slopes. These destinations include Granite Hot Springs, Togwotee Pass, Yellowstone National Park, Gros Ventre Range, and Greys River. Price ranges vary depending on the destination you choose to venture to, but they all are said to guarantee a great time.
They boast that their tour guides are some of the best around; some of which have been hosting tours in the Wyoming backcountry for over 10 years. The tours offer rider orientation, which teaches you how to operate the machine, as well as driving etiquette, and then the guides take you on a tour through the beautiful backcountry for a ride you'll love. Let It Snow, Let Us snowmobile

As soon as the snow falls the snowmobiles come out of their summer hibernation and are ready to go. There is nothing like zipping along a wooded trail covered in fresh snow on a cold day. All around the world in northern climates, people excitedly await that first good snowfall. If you are a novice, and even if you are a well seasoned rider, before you jump on there are things to know be aware of and know about. These skills should not be overlooked and practice is the key to mastery. When you understand and feel comfortable with your machine you will discover that it is one of the most enjoyable sports of the winter season.

First, you need to learn the all-important steps necessary to get yourself going. Begin by starting the snowmobile. After it is running, make sure that you put on your helmet. As with riding a bicycle, motorcycle, or any other device capable of moving at a quick pace, you must always wear a helmet. Beginners sometimes think that because snow is often soft, it will protect them if they should fall. Do not take a risk with this irresponsible approach. Always wear a helmet. Make sure that your chin strap is fastened under your chin. Next, sit yourself comfortably on the snowmobile. Allow your arms to reach the handlebars at a distance that is comfortable for you. After you have done this, you are ready to place your feet under the stirrups. These are located on the lower front section of the machine, and will allow you to have more control and a better chance of staying on the machine, as you eventually try to turn.

After you have properly positioned yourself on the machine, find the throttle. It will be on the right side of the handlebar. You will be able to control the speed of the snowmobile by using the thumb on your right hand. Of course, just as you want to go, you'll eventually want to stop. You will be able to achieve this by using the brake lever, located on the left side of the handlebar.

Be sure to give the motor a good amount of gas to get moving. From that point on, control the snowmobile the same way that you would ride a bicycle. Use your handlebars to move left and right, keeping in mind that the ease with which you turn is based primarily on the speed at which you are traveling. Turns are always easier when moving at a higher speed. Remember to always lean to the inside of a turn, as this will help the sled stay on both skis. It is helpful to know that stopping on hard-packed, more solid snow is more difficult than lighter, softer snow. Just as you do while driving a car on ice, gently pump your brakes.

The minimum age to rent a snowmobile is 18 years, while minimum age to drive a snowmobile is 16 years old with a driver's license and a parent present. This may vary by State so make sure you know if you are going to be riding through different areas than your own State. A snowmobile is not a toy and should be treated with care and respect. Make sure that your snowmobile is properly registered and insured, a state registration sticker must be displayed in accordance with the state that the snowmobile is registered.

Snowmobile Safety Tips:

Avoid traveling across bodies of water when uncertain of ice thickness or water currents. Rapidly changing weather and moving water in streams and lake inlets also affect the thickness and strength of ice on lakes and ponds. Snow cover can act as a blanket and prevents thick strong ice from forming.

Dress appropriately. Always wear a helmet with goggles or a face shield to prevent injuries from twigs and flying debris. Wear layers of water-repellent clothing and make sure you have no loose ends that might catch in the machine or tangle in equipment. Stay on marked trails or, where allowed, on the right shoulder of the road. Be alert for fences, tree stumps and stretched wire that may be concealed by snow. Riding a snowmobile can be dangerous, so always wear a helmet. Also, be sure to pay attention to other snowmobilers, keeping a distance of at least 150 feet between you and them.

There are over 12000 miles of trails in the USA which are maintained by thousands of local snowmobile clubs. A passion for the sport of snowmobiling is shared by many. Understand the basics to follow and you will have a very enjoyable experience this winter as you discover snowmobiling.

Ways To Enjoy Snowmobiling

We recently came across this great article by Art Gib that we wanted to share with you.  We would love to hear about some of your favorite snowmobile adventures too.  If we hear from enough of you we will compile these into a future blog.

Ways To Enjoy Snowmobiling

by Art Gib

Snowmobiling is a great way to get some high intensity adventure or to enjoy the scenery of a new location during the winter months. However, some may feel their snowmobiling experience start to stagnate after several years of riding the same locations over and over. If you are in this situation, or are looking for a way to get the most out of your snowmobiling experience, here are a few suggestions that might help.

First, try exploring a new location. For those who live where it snows, it may be easy to keep going to the same familiar places year after year, but this can cause your experience to seem less exciting each time. Or if you are planning to go on vacation during the winter, research which destinations may have some good snowmobiling for you. Find a new location to explore, and you may find your sense of adventure return.

Next, try going on a snowmobiling tour. Especially if you are on vacation somewhere, snowmobile tours are a great way to find some of the better places to go without having to wander around alone for hours. Guided tours are also a great way to go at a casual pace to enjoy the scenery, without feeling like you are ruining others' high adventure.
For those who go snowmobiling for the adrenaline rush, try upping the intensity. If you have not tried getting air off jumps, or if you shy away from intense looking territory, it is time to try it out. Maybe try tagging along with friends or family who are more experienced, and try to keep up with them. Snowmobiling can become more fun if you allow yourself to go out of your comfort zone occasionally.

Finally, try mixing in some snowmobiling games with your usual activities. Bring some friends along and play snowmobile tag, or hide and seek. Try playing polo or Frisbee golf while you ride. There are many different things you can do to have fun while you ride, and most of them involve simply doing something out of the ordinary.

Snowmobiling can be an extreme sport, a method of adventure, or simply a fun or relaxing thing you do on vacation. Whether you have grown tired of snowmobiling, or are simply looking for a way to further your enjoyment, these suggestions may help you think of some new ways to better enjoy your snowmobiling experience.
