Looking for Your First - or Next - ATV?

Getting involved in a hobby or recreational sport like ATV riding involves a considerable amount of cash, so, it’s fair to say that we have to be very…no, VERY careful about the kind of ATV that we invest in. the biggest question we will have to start with is how serious are we about ATV riding? How serious are we expecting ourselves to be once we have it? And of course, the next question is how much we are willing to spend on getting the ATV and what type of ATV are we looking for. A ballpark figure for an ATV should be anything between $2,000 up to about $8,500 for a really feature-packed one. For beginners, it’s alright to start with a basic ATV model and upgrade it as you progress. You can replace it when you feel that there is a need for a better model.

Mudgate: A Real, Dirty Scandal

Mudding is dirty work, but someone has to do it!

It’s hard to keep my eyes opened as I pound the keyboard on this week’s blog — my muscles are sore, hands calloused and energy levels are running low, but I’m not complaining! Yesterday, after months of rumors, speculation, planning and shop time, we finally introduced our nitrous-injectedCan-Am Outlander 650 mudder to its first mud pit.

Look for our comparison of the Arctic Cat Mud Pro 1000 and Can-Am Outlander 800R X mr in an upcoming issue of ATV Magazine.
We also used this rare opportunity (for us, at least) to kill two birds with one stone by also doing a head-to-head comparison between the Arctic Cat Mud Pro 1000 and Can-Am’s fancy new Outlander 800R X mr.

Safety at the Imperial Sand Dunes

Safety is incredibly important - even when you have a rollcage! If you're going to be at the dunes, or riding anywhere, please keep any eye out for others and yourself.
Halloween weekend will be the first trip of the season for many visitors, and the dunes will be much different than they were in the spring. As a result of shifting prevailing winds seen over the summer, razorbacks and witches eyes are more common. The hot summer weather leaves less moisture in the sand resulting in extremely soft slip-faces and leeward dune-tops.
As always, visitors are cautioned to watch out for trick-or-treaters moving from camp to camp after dark. The ASA reminds all dune users about the importance of safety at the ISDRA. A free safety DVD called "Take Time Out For Safety" is available from the ASA’s web-site (www.americansandassociation.com) with more information.

The 2011 tentative schedule has been released! Want in? Read on!

As the 2010 ATV racing season starts to unwind, a tentative 2011 World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) ATV Schedule has been released. The season, which will include nine rounds, opens in January at Honolulu Hills in Taft, Calif. (Sorry, it’s not Hawaii). The finale is 10 months later at Speed World MX in Arizona.

The ATV raced in Washington State this year, too, but it was in Olympia. For 2011, the series will return to the very popular and stunning Washougal MX facility. Buffalo Bills (Primm, Nev.), Lake Havasu City (Arizona) and Glen Helen MX (Devore, Calif.) also return. A new site next year will be Clay Peaks in Payette, Idaho. However, only the first five rounds are set in “stone” as the final four rounds are tentative and subject to change.
